The Friends of Downtown Friendswood recognize the great sacrifice that our military members make in serving our country.

CELEBRATING THE HEROES OF FRIENDSWOOD

This is a non-political, non-partisan, and not-for-profit program intended to serve as a living memorial to those service men and women from the City of Friendswood.


To Participate:

Applications will be accepted from March 1 - April 15.

Banners will measure 30” x 60".

Banners will be displayed and stored by FDFA and are expected to be utilized for an estimated 2-year rotation and returned to the applicant at time of decommission. Banner locations are limited. After all available spaces are filled, applications will be closed until space becomes available.


Street banners will be installed honoring City of Friendswood residents (past or present) who meet the requirements. A completed application and supplemental documents must be provided for review by a committee. Banners are limited to 1 per serviceperson for a fee of $100, which cover all administration costs and production of banner.


The Heroes of Friendswood Banners will be displayed in on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.


Eligibility Requirements:

Honoree must be:

  • Armed Services personnel
  • Currently serving, honorably discharged, retired or deceased

 Honoree must meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • Be a current resident of the City of Friendswood
  • Have previously lived in the City as a resident (1 year or more)

Each application is subject to approval by the Friends of Downtown Friendswood Assn/FDFA Heroes of Friendswood Banner Program Committee.


Banner Locations:

Locations for displaying the banners will be determined by the Heroes of Friendswood Committee. Available space is determined in cooperation with the City of Friendswood and will be restricted to the Downtown Friendswood District. Limited banner location space available.

  • Details of Residency
  • Proof of Honorable Discharge / Active Service (i.e. Form DD214 or Honorable Discharge Certificate) If unavailable, leave empty and the committee may reach out to confirm further. Feel free to redact SSN.
  • Official Military Photo submission, least 400 dpi resolution (Images of less than 400 dpi, and scanned photocopies may be of grainy or poor quality. Should you only have a hard copy or for any other issues, please email us at INFO@FDFA.ORG and we will assist with the process).
  • $100 fee paid via PayPal upon, link provided after submitting application.

The term "VETERAN" is defined as a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.


The term “ACTIVE DUTY” means (A) full-time duty in the Armed Forces, other than active duty for training; (B) full-time duty (other than for training purposes) as a commissioned officer of the Regular or Reserve Corps of the Public Health Service (i) on or after July 29, 1945, or (ii) before that date under circumstances affording entitlement to “full military benefits” or (iii) at any time, for the purposes of chapter 13 of this title; (C) full-time duty as a commissioned officer of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or its predecessor organization the Coast and Geodetic Survey (i) on or after July 29, 1945, or (ii) before that date (I) while on transfer to one of the Armed Forces, or (II) while, in time of war or national emergency declared by the President, assigned to duty on a project for one of the Armed Forces in an area determined by the Secretary of Defense to be of immediate military hazard, or (III) in the Philippine Islands on December 7, 1941, and continuously in such islands thereafter, or (iii) at any time, for the purposes of chapter 13 of this title; (D) service as a cadet at the United States Military, Air Force, or Coast Guard Academy, or as a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy; and (E) authorized travel to or from such duty or service.
